Transformation of civil justice in Croatia and Slovenia

From 7 to 8 September 2017 the project members organized scientific conference named "Transformation of civil justice in Croatia and Slovenia: History and Modernity". It was organized in Sveti Martin na Muri in the hearth of Croatian region Međimurje. This region was chosen since one of the purposes of the conference was to celebrate 500th anniversary of the publication of Werőczy's Tripartitum, the first codification of procedural law in this part of Europe. The purpose of the conference was to track transformation of civil justice in these 500 years.

The specific topics discussed at the conference dealt with the issue of case management, orality of the trial, costs and access to justice, as well as the novelties in the field of enforcement. Zagreb part of the team was joined by Prof. Dr. Galič who was accompanied by his Slovenian colleagues, as well as Mag. Nina Betetto, judge of Slovenian Supreme Court. More than 40 participants attended the conference.

Ukraine on the Way to Europe (KYIV, 7 JULY 2017)

Prof. Uzelac participated in international scientific conference "Ukraine on the Way to Europe: the Reform of Civil Procedural Law", devoted to the current reform of civil procedure law of Ukraine. It was organized by Faculty of Law of the National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" in Kyiv, Ukraine, on July, 7 2017. 

The purpose of the conference was to discuss the draft law on amendments to the Commercial Code of Ukraine, Civil Procedural Code of Ukraine, the Code of Administrative Procedure of Ukraine (registration No 6232 March, 23 2017 and No 6232-1 April, 10 2017), and other laws intended to implement the reform of civil procedural law, with the participation of leading Ukrainian universities and research centers, practitioners, the judiciary and European experts.

 

Transformation of Civil Justice: Unity and Diversity (PPJ 2017)

Annual Public and Justice IUC course was organized by team members of the Project from 29 May to 2 June 2017 in Dubrovnik. The specific topic of this year's course was supposed to address the topics researched within this Project: "Transformation of Civil Justice: Unity and Diversity". As always, last day was reserved for special panels on legal aid and law clinics. Almost 60 participants contributed to this year's conference.

Invited lecture for Research group for civil procedure (Bergen, 15-19 May)

From 15 - 19 May the PI, Prof. Dr. Alan Uzelac visited Bergen where he held lecture for Research group for civil procedure. The topic of his lecture was "The principle of orality: How to reinterpret conventional notions of civil procedure in the world of digital communication?".

 

Reforms of Civil Justice Between Efficiency and Quality: In memoriam Srećko Zuglia

The Zagreb members of the project team organized second conference devoted to Prof. Dr. Srećko Zuglia, one of the founders of modern legal science in the field of civil justice in the Faculty of Law, Zagreb. The conference was organized in municipality Gračišće, the place of his origin. 

This year's conference was devoted to the reforms of civil justice system, with special emphasis on the issues which are still not regulated in accordance with modern trends and the needs of parties in civil proceedings. The start of the second conference day was reserved for practitioners - local judges and lawyers - who had opportunity to discuss various issues that arise in their practice.
